From School Library Journal Grade 5-8–This collection of projects includes drawing, painting, sculpture, and paper and 3-D art. Each chapter begins with an explanation of a technique and gives a brief glimpse of an artist who excelled at it, such as Matisse's drawing with scissors, and Escher, best known for his geometric drawings of strange buildings and animals. Activities include a list of materials and numbered steps. Many can be completed with everyday objects. However, the childlike illustrations of youngsters belie the difficulty of the projects. The Web sites include artist information as well as additional project suggestions. While not unique in its creativity, this is a good book for readers who need ideas for doing artwork at home.–Delia Carruthers, Sunset Ridge Middle School, West Jordan, UT
